Read the entire situation or problem.  Take notes about what you know or about what is given as you read.  

Ask yourself the following questions:  

·         Is there any other information that I need to solve this problem?  If so, where can I get it?  

·         Are there any implied tasks that must be resolved first?  

·         If so, what are they and I how do I solve them?  Can I use a spreadsheet?  

·         Is a formula required to solve the problem?  If so, what is it?  

·         Is there a Excel spreadsheet function that will help me solve the problem?  

·         Is there an Excel wizard that can help me solve the problem?  

·         Research your text book for ideas and assistance.  

·         Implement your proposed solution in Excel.  Resolve any spreadsheet syntax problem.  

·         Ask your self “Does the answer seem to be reasonable?”  Try your solution on data for which you know the correct answer to see if the spreadsheet produces the result that you expect.
